I am delighted that my nomination for The Academy of Urbanism Summer of Walking programme has been accepted. Researching this walk was great fun and, although I felt nervous at first, I am now excited to share the experience with others. The walk is inspired by references to specific places in Pet Shop Boys lyrics. Over more than four decades, Pet Shop Boys have become the most successful duo in British pop music, often weaving London locations into their songs. This trail connects several of those places, creating a journey through musical memories and city life.
Neil Tennant once remarked that the band has always tried to bring in subject matter outside of pop music, and this walk reflects that spirit. It is designed for urbanists, economists, geographers, historians, songwriters, and fans alike. Taking place in central London on 4 September 2025, participants will also receive a digital booklet of lyrics, maps, and commentary.
