Feria Urbanism led the community engagement element on the emerging Staines Town Centre Master Plan. At the heart of this work was the design charette we organised and facilitated in the town centre in April 2026.
This was a full-day, hands-on workshop bringing together local residents, community advocates and people with direct knowledge of the town to explore development options across four key sites: Two Rivers North, Memorial Gardens and Riverside, Station Gateway, and the Oast House.
We deliberately designed the charette as a genuinely open, generative process rather than a conventional consultation: there were no predetermined options to tick and no loaded questions steering people toward preferred answers.
Instead, participants visited the sites, worked in facilitated groups, sketched ideas and tested proposals together before presenting their composite plans to one another. The result was a set of grounded, community-authored insights on rivers, connections, character and public realm that directly shaped the masterplan’s emerging vision. This is a clear example of our approach to building trust and unlocking ideas through open, energetic engagement.
