Dacorum Borough Council commissioned Feria Urbanism to develop concepts for new public realm and street designs for Hemel Hempstead Old Town High Street — an important area of local heritage and a designated Conservation Area.
We advised on how new traffic management measures could be sensitively integrated into the historic setting and produced concept drawings featuring fresh ideas for both hard and soft landscaping. Key considerations included the integration of on-street parking and the creation of flexible spaces for weekly markets and outdoor events.
Our design concepts were presented for public consultation and, following further refinement, the works were completed on site in 2013. The improvements have been warmly received by the local community, particularly by traders and local businesses.
