Brenchley & Matfield Neighbourhood Plan

Client: Brenchley & Matfield Parish Council
Location: Brenchley & Matfield, Kent
Year: 2018

Brenchley Parish Council appointed Feria Urbanism to help prepare a neighbourhood plan.

The main settlements of Brenchley and Matfield are home to many listed buildings and sit within a rolling green landscape. The latter’s village green is the largest in Kent, and is overlooked by Grade I listed Matfield House. English war poet Siegfried Sassoon was born in the village, while Brenchley famously features an avenue of historic yew trees leading up to its All Saints Church.

Our work has involved site visits, the organising and running of two visioning events in February 2018 and a three-day design forum held in March 2018. These events have allowed a variety of different community groups to have their say on a range of planning and design issues and has resulted in a series of spatial strategy options for the wider parish moving forwards.

The plan was approved at referendum in November 2022 with an 88% yes vote.
