Hassocks Strategic Housing Allocation

Client: Gleeson Developments
Location: Hassocks, West Sussex
Year: 2017

Gleeson Developments appointed Feria Urbanism to support its proposal to allocate land for 500 new homes north of Hassocks, West Sussex.

Hassocks is a large village in Mid Sussex, located seven miles north of Brighton with regular rail connections to both the south coast and London. The parish includes a Site of Special Scientific Interest, the ancient Butchers Wood to the south, and the open meadows of Friars Oak Fields to the north.

Our role was to help Gleeson Developments engage with the community and respond to local concerns as the site was promoted through the Mid Sussex Local Plan.

We worked with community groups and the parish council to understand key issues and develop an urban design strategy to address them — identifying opportunities, outlining potential design responses and including an assessment of local architectural styles and house types to inform a sensitive and context-led approach.
