Hassocks Strategic Housing Allocation
Client: | Gleeson Developments |
Location: | Hassocks, West Sussex |
Year: | 2017 |
Feria Urbanism was appointed by Gleeson Developments to help support its work to promote land for 500 homes north of Hassocks, West Sussex.
Hassocks is a large village in Mid Sussex, seven miles north of Brighton. A railway station serves the village with regular services to Brighton and London. The parish contains a Site of Special Scientific Interest, the ancient Butchers Wood to the south and the open meadows of Friars Oak Fields to the north.
Our role was to support Gleeson Developments as they promoted the land for housing in the Mid Sussex Local Plan. We worked with community groups and members of the parish council to understand their concerns over the housing allocation, so we could develop an urban design strategy that could be applied to mitigate those concerns. We highlighted potential issues and opportunities and showed how best to design the development. Our work included an assessment of local architectural styles and house types.
