We were commissioned to produce a strategy report for the Stanley Street quarter of Liverpool city centre, the home of many businesses that cater for the city’s LGBTQ+ communities.
Our advice included proposed interventions to the streets, spaces, and buildings; changes to land use planning; and new ideas for branding and promotion. Many of our recommendations were quickly implemented, included the first rainbow-branded street signs in the UK.
Our team conducted design audits, organised, and led a participatory workshop and advised on key design interventions. The project looked at options for whole or part-pedestrianisation of the street and selective demolition of certain buildings to create new civic spaces. There is now thriving Community Interest Company in place, and this has implemented many of the recommendations in our original report.
