We were commissioned by Dacorum Borough Council to develop concepts for a new public realm and a street design for the Hemel Hempstead Old Town High Street, an important area of local heritage and a Conservation Area. We provided advice on how new traffic management proposals could be sensitively integrated into this historic environment. Our concept drawings including fresh ideas on both hard and soft landscape. The integration of on-street car parking and the creation of new flexible spaces for weekly markets and other outdoor events were other vital considerations we needed to include. Our design concepts were put out to public consultation and following further refinements, the works were completed on-site in 2013. The improvements to the street have been well-received by the local community, especially traders and local businesses.
